is a participant in the federal set-aside contracts program,
created as a result of the Javits-Wagner-O’Day
(JWOD) Act of 1971. The purpose of the JWOD Act is to provide
employment opportunities for person who are blind or have
other severe disabilities through Federal Government purchases.
Product(s) and services are added to the JWOD Procurement
List by the Committee
for Purchase from People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled
(CPBOSH), which is a committee of federal
employees and private citizens appointed by the President
of the United States. This committee subsequently selects
a qualified nonprofit agency serving individuals who are
blind or otherwise severely disabled, and then sets the price
for the service based upon fair price standards in the industry.
Through the JWOD Act, hundreds of nonprofit agencies nationwide
provide the federal government with high quality services
such as landscaping, facilities maintenance and document
procurement process in which vendor selection, pricing and
performance are all coordinated and overseen by an unbiased
committee made up of qualified government and private professionals. |
